UPDATE 1 October 2014:  The NSW State Government has announced that the October 2014 intake has been delayed until late October.   The release of the new occupation list has also been delayed until Mid-October.

What is NSW State Sponsorship?

NSW State Sponsorship for the Permanent Residency Subclass 190 Visa entitles you to the following benefits:

  • Priority processing of your visa application
  • 5 extra points on the Skilled Migration Points Test
  • Access certain occupations which are not on Schedule 1 of the Consolidated Skilled Occupation List

In return, you are expected to live and work in NSW for at least 2 years.

How do I obtain NSW State Sponsorship?

You need to apply to the NSW State Government to obtain sponsorship.  Estimated processing time is 12 weeks from date of lodgement.

There are four application periods per year.

The most recent application period opened on 14 July 2014.  Applications closed after 1000 applications were received.  This occurred within 1 hour of applications opening.  Act early and don’t miss out during the next intake.

The next intake is on 14 October 2014.   A revised occupation list will be released on 1 October 2014.

After October, you will have to wait until January 2015 for the next intake.

What are the eligibility requirements for State Sponsorship?

The eligibility requirements include (but are not limited to):

  • Occupation on the NSW Skilled Occupation List
  • Under 50 years of age
  • Current and positive skills assessment
  • Competent English language ability
